‘Evoking a Sense of Place’ – Arne Maynard – SOLD OUT
NOTE: This event has now sold out. If you would like to be added to a waiting list in case tickets become available again, please email Sunita Firrell.
Today we have a Special Event with a difference: a Garden Study Day, ’Evoking a Sense of Place’ , with garden designer Arne Maynard. This is a rare opportunity to spend the day with Arne in his own garden at Allt-y-bela, a magical medieval tower house in Monmouthshire, cradled in a valley between grazed and wooded hillsides.
Arne will explain some of the history of the house, and how the challenges of the site caused a subtle shift in his design approach. Arne will then guide the group around his garden describing his thought processes whilst sharing his gardening passions that have shaped his particular visual aesthetic.
Before a delicious three-course lunch, Arne will invite you to look around the house, with a drink and canapés, so that you have an understanding of the important links between the inside and outside spaces and how to draw out and bring together the landscape, location and architectural style of a place.
In the afternoon, Arne will showcase other projects in addition to Allt-y-bela through an illustrated talk, explaining how the close attention to detail of the site and location have influenced design decisions. Our day will finish with tea and cakes and a chance to ask questions. An absolute must for anyone with an interest in design!
