Today’s event starts at The Old Rectory in Thruxton, set in four beautiful acres of gardens with spectacular panoramic views of the Herefordshire countryside and Hay Bluff.

Our guests will be given a guided tour through the gardens by the owners, including the formal two-acre gardens bordered by yew and hornbeam hedges, long deep borders packed with interesting perennials, the heritage apple orchards, as well as the vegetable parterre and the estate’s wildlife pond.

We will then make the short journey to The Laskett Gardens where we will have a picnic lunch with prosecco!

Sir Roy will welcome our guests in the Colonnade Court and share the story of how the garden has evolved. Over almost four decades Sir Roy and his late wife, designer Dr Julia Trevelyan Oman transformed a four-acre field into a series of stunning garden rooms, vistas, ascents and descents.

These include a rose garden, pleached lime avenue, orchard, knot garden, fountains, statuary and parterres, as well as a spectacular array of topiary and rich herbaceous and prairie style borders.

Uniquely, the garden tells the story of both their marriage and their creative lives in the arts. Head Gardener Shaun Cadman and his colleague Philip Teague will be happy to talk with guests as they wander around the garden.
