Hampshire based wholesale nursery Hortus Loci has provided the perfect start to Perennial’s 2017 HortAid campaign at this year’s Party for Perennial. The nursery has confirmed that all royalties from the sale of Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Whitewater Silver’, a new cultivar discovered at the nursery, will be donated to Perennial in perpetuity. Hortus Loci will donate 10p from the sale of every plant, which are available to buy now via New Place Nurseries.
The first batch of 2,500 plants has already been sold and a cheque for £250 will be presented to Perennial at its annual fundraising Party, being held this evening at The Barbican in London. Speaking about the new partnership with Perennial and his decision to donate royalties from this plant, nursery co-owner Robin Wallis said:
“Following our involvement in the Go Nuts for HortAid fundraising event last year, we have been considering how we can support the charity on an ongoing basis. Donating royalties from this wonderful new rosemary seemed the perfect way to do that and we’re delighted that it is all coming together. Hopefully one or two of the 2017 Chelsea Flower Show gardens we are growing for can be persuaded to feature it in May!”
Rosmarinus officinalis ‘Whitewater Silver’ is a sport of R. off. prostratus. It forms a bushy arching clump showing off its silvery leaf undersides to dramatic effect especially in winter. Large mid-blue flowers are borne in spring. This culinary variety is suited to trailing over walls and edgings or for growing in containers.
Speaking about the new partnership Laura Garnett, Senior Development Manager at Perennial said,
“As a charity dedicated to supporting all those who work in or are retired from horticulture we welcome all partnerships with UK horticulture companies. This new fundraising initiative announced by Hortus Loci is a perfect example of how Perennial and UK growers can work together to support people in need. We wish the Hortus Loci team every success with the sale of their new rosemary and we’ll be here to help every step of the way.”
New Place Nurseries is a well-known supplier of young plants to UK nurseries. Growers wishing to stock the plant should email email@example.com to find out more and place an order.
