Colm and Duncan are alumni of the highly-acclaimed London College of Garden Design. Their design was chosen following a competition run jointly by Perennial and the College in 2018, which required students to take inspiration from The Laskett Gardens in Herefordshire.

Colm and Duncan’s garden celebrates Perennial’s role at the heart of horticulture and captures the spirit of Sir Roy Strong CH and Julia Trevelyan Oman’s The Laskett Gardens, which Sir Roy bequeathed to Perennial in 2015. Running separate garden design practices, their collaboration for Perennial at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 brings together their complementary skills and design approaches to explore the theme of celebrating heritage while looking to the future. Their design takes some of the classical elements of Sir Roy’s garden and reimagines them in a contemporary way.
Colm Joseph Landscape + Garden Design, based near Cambridge and Newmarket, specialises in modern and contemporary garden design.

Duncan is one half of garden and landscape partnership Cargill Sykes Ltd. They are based in London and the Cotswolds and are also undertaking projects in France and Spain.

A special thanks goes to award-winning garden designer Andrew Fisher Tomlin who coordinated the design competition with the London College of Garden Design, that he runs jointly with Andrew Wilson. He has provided invaluable support to Colm and Duncan throughout the process of bringing their first garden to the Chelsea Flower Show and continues to support Perennial as an advisor and long-standing supporter.
