Perennial to offer support and advice at Four Oaks

Perennial will be exhibiting at the Four Oaks Trade Show (stand number C90) at the beginning of September to provide information on how the charity helps horticulturists during times of crisis. For the first time at the show, a Caseworker will be on the Perennial stand throughout the event offering in depth information and advice on the wide range of issues that Perennial can help. Perennial’s services, which are regularly described as a lifeline by those it helps, include support for financial and debt problems as well assistance for those affected by illness, disability, bereavement, redundancy and old age.

The Four Oaks show takes place during Perennial’s HortAid fortnight, which runs 1-14 September, when the charity is encouraging people from across the industry to ‘Go Green for HortAid’ and help raise funds and awareness for Perennial. The charity, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year, has pledged to raise an extra £175,000 and hopes the ‘go green’ theme will strike a chord with all those working in horticulture.

Caseworker Manager, Helen Waddington said:

“We are really pleased to be at Four Oaks and have the opportunity to talk face to face with people who might want to know more about how we can help. We will be giving advice on a broad range of issues that increasingly face horticulturists, including help with benefits, self employment, social care, housing problems and many other challenging issues that life can throw at us. We can also provide advice on training and bursaries. We help people working across all sectors of horticulture including landscapers, nurserymen, tree surgeons, grounds maintenance staff, parks and gardens teams and greenkeepers. The help we provide extends to spouses, partners and dependent children and all help is free and confidential. Many people don’t realise that this support is available to them so please come and talk to us at the show to find out more.”

Also on the stand will be Laura Garnett, Volunteer Support Officer, who is looking forward to meeting contacts new and old.  She said:

“We are delighted to be back at Four Oaks and this time with members of our Caseworker team on the stand providing valuable advice. With Four Oaks taking place during our HortAid fortnight, we also want to encourage colleagues from across the UK horticulture industry to get involved and help us raise funds. Whether you pledge to cycle to work for a week or wear a green morph suit, we hope that as many people as possible will ‘Go Green for HortAid’. All of our services are entirely dependent on financial contributions from the industry and the garden loving public so your support will make a real difference.”

Perennial will be at stand number C90 at Four Oaks.

About Perennial

Perennial celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2014 and is on track to raise £175,000 for horticulturists in need. Established in 1839, The Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Fund, or Perennial as it is now known, helps everyone working in and retired from horticulture, including landscapers, gardeners, garden designers, green keepers, tree surgeons, groundsmen, seed and turf growers, those involved in intensive production horticulture, parks and gardens staff and many more, and their families during times of crisis. The charity provides a range of support to people experiencing hardship whether through debt, illness, disability or old age. In the current economic climate this help is needed more than it ever was; in 2013, Perennial helped over 1,200 people, over 85% of whom were still of working age.

All of Perennial’s funds come from the generosity of the horticulture trade and the garden-loving public. Perennial is calling on everyone who cares about looking after the people that care for our green spaces to get involved by raising £175 for 175 this year. To find out more about the work of Perennial and ways to get involved with fundraising during 2014, please visit, email or call one of the team on 0800 093 8510.
