Hand Felted Nuno Felted Scarf Workshop

In this workshop you will create an attractive and completely unique hand felted nuno felted scarf, (where you mix fabrics and wool) you will create a scarf from one layer of wool, on top of printed fabric of your choice, resulting in a fine ‘cobweb’ effect. The workshop requires no previous knowledge of felt making, so is suitable for both the new and more experienced maker.

All the materials and equipment will be provided on the day but you will need to bring an old towel with you.

Tea or coffee and biscuits are provided.

Price £40.00 for the session (10.30-12.30pm) on Sunday 24th September 2017.

Our new YORK GATE TALK series kicks off this November with your first presentation…

Would you be the best judge of the Show Gardens at the Chelsea Flower Show… and what the visitors don’t see?

Lesley Watson and Dougal Philip from New Hopetoun Gardens share some of the secrets from behind the scenes at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Tuesday 21st November 7.30pm for drinks (talk start 8pm)

York Gate Garden – Field Room (through the Nutwalk turn left)

Husband and wife, Dougal Philip and Lesley Watson, run a garden centre 12 miles west of Edinburgh specialising in garden plants, although a tearoom and gift shop keep their team busy all year round. Dougal is currently chair of Perennial and has been a trustee for 12 years and is a member of the York Gate Garden Committee. He was a former President of the Horticultural Trades Association and former Council member of the RHS and Chair of their Shows Advisory Committee. Lesley has worked for Dougal for over 30 years and was one of the presenters of the Scottish gardening programme, The Beechgrove Garden, for 16 years. Both of them have been show garden judges at RHS flower shows for over 20 years, although the roles you have at each show on the judging panels can vary. At Chelsea, Lesley was on the panel judging Fresh and Artisan Gardens this year and Dougal chaired the Show Garden panel. Having fallen into the pond on the Stoke on Trent garden while chairing the Show Garden Judging panel a few years ago he has been delighted to still continue being invited to judge!
