Marianne's story

"Hello. I'm Marianne. Since I started my career in horticulture many years ago I've had a mix of employed and self-employed jobs and for the last 12 years I've been a self-employed Garden Designer.

I'm 58 and have been married to David for over 25 years. I'd love to retire in the next 5 years so I can see more of the grandchildren and have more time to ourselves.  I've been the main breadwinner recently and we're doing ok. We own our own home and have a little saved but I haven't been able to pay much into a pension scheme over the last few years.

Thinking about retirement has always been something I've put off till now so I'm at a bit at a loss as to what to do next."

Have you been through the same thing? Realising you've got to start thinking about retiring but finding it all a bit overwhelming, especially when you've not been paying into a pension regularly?

Share your thoughts to help Marianne and and others in the industry better understand their pension and where they stand.
