Support for Families
At Perennial we want every child to have a happy and healthy childhood. Parents and carers work hard to give their children the best start at school, but we know that for many families living on low incomes this is a huge challenge. The cost of school uniform and school meals put even more financial pressure on families during these difficult times. This year we are continuing to support families in horticulture with the rising cost of getting children back to school. It’s important you act now so you don’t miss out.
Our team is here to help your family access government support, plan ahead and feel confident you can meet these essential costs in the future. We have some really useful links below to help you claim the government support available for returning to the classroom in September.
For help with school costs act now and please get in touch with us on 0800 093 8543 or click here to complete the our contact form and one of our team will get in touch with you.
To meet the rising costs of school uniform, in some parts of the UK, local authorities help with school uniform costs for low income families. Click here to find out if your local authority provides this support and if you are eligible.
Alternatively, contact your child’s school to ask about School Uniform support in your area. They should be able to provide more information about local authority schemes or local initiatives available for your family to access.
Free school meals
Your child might be entitled to free school meals – you can check if they are eligible. If you live in England you can find out how to apply on your local authority’s website. There is a different process if you live in Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales.

Last year Martin, a parent of two children, found himself in financial difficulty and life got even harder following a close family bereavement. Experiencing anxiety and unable to see a way forward, Martin found Perennial. He reached out for help and was offered support for his family, so that they could buy much-needed school uniform for their eldest child:
“We were blown away by the support we received from Perennial – the charity has been our lifeline. They made sure we were getting the right benefits, gave us advice on how to deal with our debt and helped create a budget so we could take control of our money and work towards a more stable future.”
If you need assistance accessing local support, help with your application or any other concerns, please call one of the Perennial team on 0800 093 8543 or click here to complete the our contact form and one of our team will get in touch with you.
