Mount St John overlooks the Vale of York, with the Minster's towers visible 25 miles to the south on clear days. At an elevation of 500 feet, the garden pays homage to this view.

The Blundell family commissioned Tom Stuart-Smith in 2004, completing the main garden in 2006 and commencing the ongoing valley garden project in 2007. Below the Georgian property (circa 1720) lie the monastic foundations of a preceptory of the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St John of Jerusalem. The Victorian kitchen and cut flower gardens supply local restaurants with produce, continually innovating.

Guests can enjoy ornamental trees, rhododendrons, shrubs, and thousands of perennials. The day begins with coffee and biscuits, followed by a garden tour led by a team member. A delicious lunch at the nearby Carpenters Arms, featuring produce from Mount St John’s kitchen garden, concludes the visit.

This garden is not usually open to the public, making this a rare opportunity to explore the grounds.
