Due to our hugely successful 2016 event, we have the opportunity to return for a rare, guided tour to the Inner & Middle Temple Gardens: two of the remaining Four Inns of Court which are the professional associations for barristers in England and Wales.
At three acres, Inner Temple Garden is one of the largest private gardens in central London. It has been cultivated since the 12th century when its purpose was more practical than pleasure. It is now a haven of tranquillity and beauty. Hosting a rare and unusual collection of trees, sweeping lawns towards the river and bounded by spectacular herbaceous borders. Visitors will be able to enjoy late spring and early summer displays in the 70 metre long High Border containing unusual and well-loved plants.
Sean Harkin, Head Gardener at Inner Temple, will be our host before we take lunch in the exquisite Middle Temple Hall, one of the finest examples of an Elizabethan hall in the country.
After lunch we will explore the Middle Temple Gardens with Head Gardener Kate Jenrick. The award-winning gardens of Middle Temple comprise a series of courtyards and one larger formal garden. Each courtyard has its own character and continues to offer peaceful respite from the bustle of central London as they have for centuries. The main garden, with generous expanse of lawn and formal borders provides the setting for social gatherings and events.
