Spring seems to have sprung

Our gardens are now open, just in time to come visit us and enjoy the best that spring has to offer. Spring seems to have sprung, the sun is out, the birds are singing and the plants are thriving.
At Fullers Mill Garden, leaves are opening on the trees, buds have already formed on the peonies promising an abundance of flowers, the herbaceous perennials are shooting up from the ground and our Fritillaria meleagris are opening by the millpond. This is all under the canopies of flowering cherries and magnolias, and of course the vibrant green new leaves which have opened.
Meanwhile at York Gate Garden, from the iconic Arts and Crafts stone paths to the exciting array of unique planting, the garden is bursting with spring character ready to be enjoyed.
At the moment we have some lovely snake’s head fritillaries in the meadow and so many tulips coming into bloom – such as the vibrant red Tulipa praestans ‘Fusilier’ in Nut Walk. Also the stunning purple grape hyacinth Muscari ‘Night Eyes’, along with some beautiful Anemone blanda growing along the fern borders next to the plant sales area. There are also plenty of Primula denticulata popping up – available to buy in our plant sales area.
Our nursery teams at both gardens have been working hard to keep our plant sales full of high-quality plants inspired by the gardens themselves, perfect for anyone wanting to take a bit of Fullers Mill or York Gate home with them.
So, what else do we need in the gardens apart from sunshine and gentle rainfall? Obviously it’s you, our visitors, who we have missed throughout the winter when we have been closed – you bring a vibrancy to the garden and appreciate the hard work of all the gardeners and volunteers.
