For eight years, Mike has been a tireless champion for Perennial, ensuring its vital message of support for people facing challenges in horticulture reaches those in need across Scotland.
His commitment is truly inspiring: he diligently places collection tins and shares literature in a wide variety of locations, including shops, garden centres, golf clubs, hotels and garages around Banchory and the wider area. The simple act of checking the tins and banking the proceeds brings him genuine fulfilment, knowing that every pound raised makes a tangible difference to someone’s life.
His efforts have generated nearly £4,000 and he was also instrumental in securing crucial auction prizes for the fundraising lunch. Mike's exceptional dedication even earned him official recognition from MP Alexander Burnett in 2020.
For Mike, Perennial is more than a cause, it’s a lifeline, providing purpose and connection, especially following the loss of his wife. His selflessness, energy, and devotion make him a shining example of what it means to give back, making him a most deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
Mike says: "Perennial has twice been my saviour. That’s when I started spreading the word of Perennial in and around Banchory. My wife then sadly died, and if it hadn't been for getting out and about checking the tins, banking the money and getting donations for Perennial, God knows where I'd be today.”
