Theatre Performance by Trio Literati  ‘War on Our Doorstep’

Where: York Gate Garden tea room
Date: January 19th 2019
Time: 7pm start (door open 6.30pm)
Tickets: £8.50 SOLD OUT

The play consists  of beautifully observed vignettes evoking the atmosphere and thoughts of Yorkshire residents based on 3 wartime archives — a housewife’s diary from the Mass Observation Project 1939–40, the diary of a recruit to the Army Medical Corps, and the wartime diaries of our own Fred Spencer, founder of York Gate Garden.

The wartime love of music and dance, and observations of life during the war, are interwoven with music performed by two musicians and including ‘The Lambeth Walk’, (with lively dance showing the wartime spirit), ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ (the young recruit separated from his girlfriend) and audience participation with ‘Bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover’ and ‘We’ll Meet Again’.

York Gate Garden will open this winter for its biggest ever Christmas Event – nine days straight of festive fun between 1st-9th December. Our tea room will be packed with tasty festive treats, the gift shop will be open for gifts and inspiration and will, of course, be selling Perennial Christmas cards. We’ll have craft sellers in our indoor mini Christmas Market in the Field Room and entertainment at various times – please check back for updates. If that’s not enough, we are giving out free tasters of Christmas cake and mulled wine!

The garden will also be open for you to see how busy the team have been since we closed at the end of September. So wrap up warm and join us for our biggest Christmas do yet.
